history

A church has been on the site since 1139 at the latest. In that year this Church of Mary was placed under the control of Coldingham Priory . In 1499 the Blackadder Aisle was added. This has been preserved to this day, but has been heavily revised over the centuries. In 1737 the old church was demolished. Fragments and foundations of the previous structure were integrated into the construction of today's Edrom Parish Church in the same year. In 1886 the building was restored and expanded. Noteworthy is the find of an 11th century hogback in the cemetery.

description

The Edrom Parish Church stands in the middle of the surrounding cemetery on the western edge of Edrom. Whiteadder Water runs around 200 m north . With its transept, the church forms a cruciform floor plan. The southern part of the transept is the Blackadder Aisle , built in 1499 , which was taken over from the previous structure. The masonry consists of quarry stone from sandstone , which was roughly hewn into cuboids, with detached natural stone details . Some of the windows close with Tudor arches . On the west gable sits a two-story ridge turret with an open bell.

Romanesque arch

Numerous gravestones from past centuries can be found in the surrounding cemetery, to which the monument protection explicitly extends. The Romanesque archway from a previous building is remarkable . It was integrated into the Logan's family crypt as an entrance portal.
