Eduard Charlemont (born August 2, 1842 in Vienna ; † February 7, 1906 there ) was an Austrian portrait and genre painter .

Life

Eduard was the son of the miniature painter Matthias Adolf Charlemont . He worked from 1870 in the studio of Hans Makart . During a stay in Paris for several years , he was particularly influenced by Ernest Meissonier .

Charlemont painted three ceiling pictures, each 18 m long, for the foyer of the Vienna Burgtheater .
