Eduard Crüsemann (born June 16, 1826 in Berlin , † September 1, 1869 in Bremen ) was a wholesale merchant and co-founder of the North German Lloyd .

biography

Crüsemann was the son of a Berlin businessman and therefore began his career with a commercial apprenticeship at the Berliner Handels-Gesellschaft (BHG), which was followed by an internship in a company in Bremen. Then he opened an import and shipping company in Bremen . During a business trip to the USA and the Caribbean in 1853, he recognized the need for a regular steamship line between the USA and Bremen.

In Bremen he then founded the North German Lloyd together with Hermann Henrich Meier . Crüsemann became the first director and, in addition to the transport of goods, also focused on passenger traffic, which was increased by emigration .

Eduard Crüsemann was buried in the Riensberg cemetery in Bremen (grave location: grid square O).

In Bremen, the Crüsemannallee in Schwachhausen was named after him.

His daughter Hedwig Heyl (née Crüsemann) was a German social politician.
