Eduard Dohlhoff

Georg Eduard Dohlhoff (born July 24, 1799 in Halle an der Saale , † May 27, 1852 in Magdeburg ) was a doctor and medical advisor .

Life

Eduard Dohlhoff was born as the son of the Protestant cathedral and court preacher Dr. Georg Peter Dohlhoff and Marie Louise Humbert were born. From 1816 he studied medicine in Halle / Saale. In 1819 he received his doctorate and went on a study trip, including to Paris . In 1822 he settled as a doctor in Magdeburg. Dohlhoff was married to his cousin Johanna Gaertner, a daughter of Friedrich Wilhelm Abraham Gaertner and Sophie Marie Dohlhoff. Eduard Dohlhoff, like his wife Johanna Gaertner, were grandsons of the pharmacist and mayor of the Palatinate colony Georg Philipp Dohlhoff . 2 children are known from the marriage.

Public work

In 1826 he became assessor for surgery in the Provincial Medical College. In 1827 he took over the management of the surgical clinic in Magdeburg's old town hospital. He was also a lecturer for general and special surgery at the newly founded medical-surgical college. During a cholera - epidemic Dohlhoff headed in Magdeburg in the years 1831/1832 cholera hospital in Turmschanzenstraße . In order to make the training of the nursing staff more effective and faster, he founded a nursing association. In 1832 Dohlhoff became a medical advisor. In 1834 he became chairman of the board of examiners in the medical college.

Because of a malpractice Dohlhoff was sentenced to prison in 1840, which he did not have to serve due to a general amnesty .

Honor

The city of Magdeburg had temporarily named a street ( Dohlhoffstrasse ) in his honor.
