Eduard Hilgard (born March 1, 1884 in Bad Dürkheim , † 1982 ) was a German insurance manager.

Life

After graduating from the humanistic grammar school in Speyer, Eduard Hilgard studied law at the universities of Würzburg and Berlin. In 1904 he became a member of the Corps Rhenania Würzburg . After taking the Bavarian state examination in Speyer in 1909, he worked as an assessor for the Bavarian government in Würzburg from 1910 to 1914. He took part in the First World War as a reserve officer, most recently as captain of the reserve. As an award, he received the Iron Cross II. And I. Class and the Bavarian Order of Military Merit 4th Class. In 1918 he became the Bavarian District Office Assessor in Neu-Ulm. At the end of 1919 he moved to the Reich Ministry of Finance as a government and later senior government councilor. There he worked as a consultant for reparations issues.

In April 1921 Hilgard joined Allianz und Stuttgarter Verein Versicherungs-AG in Berlin. There he became a deputy and in 1925 a full board member. In this position he was interim director of the Neue Frankfurter Allgemeine Versicherungs-AG in Frankfurt in 1930. He was a member of the Allianz Board of Management until 1944. In 1933 he was deputy chairman of the board. In 1933 he was chairman of the Reich Association of Private Insurance . In 1934 he became head of the Reich Insurance Group . Hilgard was called in to a meeting with Goering on November 12, 1938, when it came to the confiscation of insurance funds for the damage done to the Jews during the Reichskristallnacht .

After the Second World War he was a member of the Allianz Supervisory Board from 1948 to 1953. His son was the diplomat Hanns Hilgard , who was among other things Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Luxembourg between 1971 and 1975 .
