Eduard Koellner

Eduard Köllner (born July 15, 1839 in Dobrilugk , † November 8, 1891 in Guben ) was a German composer . He became known for his compositions for male voices.

Life and education

Köllner was born in the Lower Lusatian town of Dobrilugk on Grimmerstrasse.

He received his training as a composer from Flodoard Geyer (born March 1, 1811 in Berlin; † April 30, 1872 ibid), Eduard Grell , Carl Albert Löschhorn and Johann Gottlob Schneider junior . He lived in Guben as a cantor of the town and main church and as a singing teacher at the grammar school. During this time he was conductor of the Federal Niederlausitzer Sängerbund .

Famous works

Köllner published a large number of unison songs for male choirs. More than 200 works are known, ranging from the first publication date 1862 to 1896. Below is a selection of works:

  • Ceremonial anthem for the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of the United States of North America (with award).
  • Op. 46th Ave Maria . Poem by Paul Lindenberg for four-part male choir and alternating double choir 1877.
  • Op. 117. Pharaoh . Ballad for unanimous male choir and orchestra. Leipzig, seal. 1889.
  • Op. 149. Hohenzollern song: German brothers, German sounds . Four-part male choir with brass instruments. Leipzig, Rob. Forberg. 1893.
