Eduard Koerner , also: Edvard Koerner (born August 6, 1863 in Tachau , Bohemia , Austrian Empire , † March 29, 1933 in Prague , Czechoslovakia ) was a Czech politician and lawyer. He was a member of the Austrian House of Representatives and a member of the Bohemian Landtag .

Life

Eduard Koerner was born as the son of the director of the City Brewery in Pilsen . He attended high school in Pilsen and then studied law at the Czech University in Prague. He received his doctorate as Dr. jur. and subsequently worked as a lawyer in Prague. He was initially vice-president of the Chamber of Lawyers for Bohemia and was subsequently elected chairman of the Chamber of Lawyers in Prague several times. In the high treason trial against the politicians Karel Kramář , Alois Rašín and Vincenc Červinka , Koerner appeared as a defender in 1916.

In 1907 he was elected as a representative of the Young Czechs in the Bohemian Landtag, in the Reichsrat election in 1911 he also stood for the Young Czechs in the Bohemian constituency 20 , which included cities such as Laun in Central Bohemia. Koerner was able to collect 48.2 percent of the votes in the first ballot and prevailed in the runoff election with around 57 percent against Václav Beneš from the Czech Social Democratic Party . He was a member of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Club and was a long-time member of the Judiciary Committee and at times a member of the Soil Debt Committee, member of the Legitimation Committee, member of the Finance Committee, member of the Press Committee and member of the Constitutional Committee. After the First World War, Koerner was appointed Czechoslovak extraordinary diplomatic plenipotentiary for Elbe shipping in Germany in 1919 , and in 1922 he was appointed Czechoslovakian envoy in Berlin. He later became President of the Supreme Audit and Control Office in Prague.
