Eduard Ludwig Wedekind

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eduard Ludwig Wedekind (born May 27, 1804 in Helmstedt , † February 18, 1861 in Berlin ) was a German schoolboy, educator and historian.

Life

Wedekind studied theology at the University of Halle-Wittenberg from 1823 and was a member of the fraternity there. In 1825 he continued his studies at the University of Göttingen . He became a history teacher at the high school in Crossen , district of Crossen , where he served as vice-principal from at least 1839 to at least 1855.

He was a member of the Association for the History of the Mark Brandenburg , founded in 1837 , whose organ was the Märkische Forschungen . As can be seen from the annals of the association, for example, at the association meeting on April 12, 1843, he held a day about the Castellanei Crossen. In addition, from August 21, 1850 to January 18, 1861 (deletion) he was a corresponding member of the Upper Lusatian Society of Sciences in Görlitz. In the list of members published by the society, he was last recorded under the serial number 87. He left the latter company in 1860, so that the minutes of the meeting of January 18, 1861 stated that “Dr. Wedekind in Berlin ”should be deleted from the list of members.

Wedekind seems to have moved to Berlin before 1860. He is not mentioned in a chronicle of the secondary school in Crossen, written by the rector Karl Friedrich Petermann, who has been in office since 1860. He died of carbuncles in Berlin at the age of 55 and was buried on February 20, 1861 in the cemetery of the Protestant St. Mark's Church. He was married and left behind his wife and five children, two of whom were minors.
