Stefan Hans Götz von Selle (born January 28, 1893 in Torgau , † October 6, 1956 in Göttingen ) was a German librarian and historian.

Life

Götz von Selle attended high school in Steglitz . In 1938 he was appointed library councilor in Göttingen and in February 1939 he was appointed honorary professor of the Philosophical Faculty. At the same time he received a teaching position for library science and university history .

Koenigsberg

In the same year he followed the call of Albertus University; As a professor of German educational and intellectual history, he took over the position of First Library Council and Deputy Director of the State and University Library in Königsberg .

He wrote the history of the Albertus University , which the Rector Hans-Bernhard von Grünberg and the Senate had commissioned for the 400th anniversary of the Albertina. In the preface to the 2nd edition (1956) Herbert Kraus wrote :

Goettingen

He embodies the close relationships between the Georg August University of Göttingen and the lost Albertus University of Königsberg . His health prevented him from re-entering the library service; At the request of the Rector and Senate, he took over the reconstruction and management of the university archive, the holdings of which had been relocated during World War II .

With Friedrich Hoffmann , he was one of the founders of the Göttingen working group . After Hoffmann's death, he continued the work of the registration office he founded for the East German universities . In April 1956, the friends of Kant elected him first chancellor. He died six months later at the age of 63. He was buried in the city ​​cemetery (Göttingen) .

He was married since 1921 to Erika Freiin von Bodenhausen from the Arnstein line (1894-1984). The only daughter from this marriage was Gabriele Freifrau Grote nee. von Selle (1922-2017).
