Eduard Mikaeljan

Eduard Balabekowitsch Mikaeljan ( Armenian Էդուարդ Միքայելյան ; born May 25, 1950 in Yerevan ) is a former Armenian gymnast who competed for the Soviet Union in the 1970s .

Mikaeljan was part of the Soviet squad at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich . Nikolai Andrianow , Mikhail Voronin , Viktor Klimenko , Eduard Mikaeljan, Alexander Malejew and Vladimir Stschukin won the silver medal behind the Japanese in the team competition. As the fourth best gymnast of the Soviet team, Mikaeljan was in 20th place, only the three best gymnasts in each group competed in the individual all-around competition. In terms of equipment, Mikaeljan was eighth on the pommel horse and on the parallel bars , only six gymnasts per apparatus reached the final.

At the 1974 World Championships in Varna , the Japanese again won the team competition in front of the Soviet team with Nikolai Andrianow, Eduard Mikaeljan, Vladimir Martschenko , Paat Shamugia and Vladimir Safronov .
