Eduard Picker

Eduard Picker (born November 3, 1940 in Koblenz am Rhein) is a German legal scholar and professor at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen .

Life

After studying at the Free University of Berlin , the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and the German University of Administrative Sciences Speyer , Picker received his doctorate in Bonn in 1971 with the thesis "The negatorial elimination claim" with his teacher Werner Flume , with whom he worked from 1969 to 1978 assistant. In 1978 Picker was habilitated at the University of Bonn with his work "The third party contradiction suit in its historical development as an example of the interaction of substantive law and procedural law" and received the Venia Legendi for civil law, civil procedural law, Roman law and the history of modern private law. In the further course of his academic activities, Picker devoted himself increasingly to collective labor law and the problem of so-called " wrongful life ". He is characterized, especially in general civil law, by fundamental dogmatic work. Many of his works have been translated into Japanese, Polish, Italian and - currently planned - into Russian.

After his habilitation, Picker taught as substitute professors in the winter semester 1978/1979 at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel and in the summer semester 1979 at the University of Konstanz and became more tidy in the winter semester 1979/1980 - rejecting calls to the universities of Cologne and Konstanz Professor at the University of Regensburg (chair for civil law and Roman law, successor to Dieter Medicus ). In 1985 he turned down an offer at the University of Bern . Since 1986 Picker has been teaching at the University of Tübingen (Chair for Civil Law, Labor Law and Modern History of Private Law). As part of an "exchange program" to expand the Technical University of Dresden into a full university between the law faculties of the Technical University of Dresden and the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, Picker taught for 2 semesters (WS 1993-SS 1994) at the Technical University of Dresden. From 1995 to 1997 he was Dean of the Law Faculty of the University of Tübingen; at the end of the summer semester 2008 he was retired; However, he continues to read on the "System of Civil Property Law" at the Faculty of Law.

Picker is co-editor of the Zeitschrift für Arbeitsrecht (ZfA) and editor-in-chief of the Tübingen legal treatises (TübRA) and a full member of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences .

One of his students is Prof. Dr. Thomas Lobinger (Heidelberg).

Eduard Picker is with Elke Picker, geb. Heinemeyer, married and has four children.
