Egon Lorenz

Egon Lorenz (born July 9, 1934 in Butjadingen ; † October 16, 2019 ) was a German legal scholar .

Life

After studying law in Marburg, Munich and Göttingen, Lorenz passed his first state examination in law and was a research assistant at the University of Göttingen. In 1963 he was at Franz Gamillscheg in Göttingen with a dissertation on The Dotalstatut in the Italian civil law doctrine of 13th to 16th century to Dr. iur. PhD. In 1964 he passed the second state examination in law and worked as a research assistant at the University of Göttingen. In 1968 he completed his habilitation there on the integration of the injured party into the law of damages .

In 1970 Lorenz was offered a call to Mannheim and until his retirement in 2002 held the chair for civil law, international private law and insurance law at the University of Mannheim and (since 1987) managing director of the Institute for Insurance Science.

In 1983 Lorenz became a member of the HUK-Coburg insurance company , where he moved to the supervisory board in 1992 and was chairman of the supervisory board from 2000 to 2005. After retiring due to old age, he was made honorary chairman in 2005. He was also a member of the board of the German Association for Insurance Science and a member of the insurance advisory board of the BAV, now the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (Bafin) . Until 2015 Lorenz was the main editor of the insurance law magazine . He was chairman of the board of the insurance industry association. V., the sole shareholder of the insurance industry publishing house. In addition, he was a member of the German Council for International Private Law, board member of the Legal Study Society at the Federal Court of Justice and board member of the Association for the Promotion of Insurance Science at the University of Mannheim.

In 2007 he was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit on the ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
