Eduard Stiefel (painter)

Eduard Stiefel (born April 5, 1875 in Riesbach , † December 30, 1967 in Zurich ) was a Swiss painter and graphic artist .

After training as a lithographer in Zurich, Stiefel studied at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts from 1898–1902 , a. a. with Johann Caspar Herterich and Peter Halm . In 1905 he was appointed professor at the Zurich School of Applied Arts . Later he was a drawing teacher at the cantonal high school in Zurich .

Stiefel created oil paintings, wall paintings, drawings, etchings and woodcuts . He also worked as a book illustrator, set designer and poster designer. His works were in museums and the like. a. in Lugano, Wuppertal and Zurich. Occasionally, works by the artist are offered in auction shops.

Stiefel's son Eduard Ludwig Stiefel was a well-known Swiss mathematician.
