Edward Archibald
Edward Archibald ( Edward Blake "Ed" Archibald ; born March 29, 1884 in Toronto , † March 20, 1965 Toronto) was a Canadian pole vaulter .
At the Olympic Intermediate Games in 1906 , he was tenth with 2.75 m. He had lost his staff on the train ride through Italy and had to jump with a borrowed device, which broke and nearly impaled him. In the pentathlon of the same games he was seventh.
At the Olympic Games in London in 1908 , he shared the bronze medal with Charles Jacobs and Bruno Söderström . All three had traversed 3.58 m, while joint winners Edward Cook and Alfred Gilbert mastered 3.71 m.
Edward Archibald was three times Canadian champion from 1907 to 1909 and British champion in pole vault in 1908. In 1908 he was also national hammer throw champion .
