Vilhelm Bruno Söderström (born October 28, 1881 in Stockholm ; † January 1, 1969 there ) was a Swedish athlete who was active as a javelin thrower and pole vaulter at the beginning of the 20th century .

He took part in the 1906 Olympic Intermediate Games in Athens and the 1908 Olympic Games in London . The so-called "freestyle" was thrown, in which the end of the spear was held with the fingertips. According to the rule at the time, only the top three finishers were allowed to go through the three finals after qualifying. In Athens Söderström was one of them and won the bronze medal with 44.92 m behind his two compatriots Eric Lemming (gold with 53.90 m) and Knut Lindberg (silver with 45.12 m). Two years later in London two javelin throwing disciplines were on the program: the "freestyle" and the style with the handle on the middle of the spear that is common today. Söderström was registered for both disciplines, but only competed in freestyle. This time he did not make it to the final of the top three; its range has not been recorded.

Standing in the shadow of the outstanding Eric Lemming, Söderström could not win a single Swedish championship in javelin throw.

Bruno Söderström was even more successful as a pole vaulter. In 1906 in Athens he was second behind the French Fernand Gonder with 3.40 meters , this was the only Olympic pole vault competition in which no American won until 1972. In 1908 in London, the Americans Edward Cook and Alfred Gilbert won gold together, each measuring 3.71 meters. Behind them, three jumpers received the bronze medal for 3.58 meters. In addition to Bruno Söderström, these were the American Charles Jacobs and the Canadian Edward Archibald .

In 1906 in Athens Söderström also competed in the high jump. He finished sixth with 1.675 meters.
