Edward Bourchier

Sir Edward Bourchier († December 30, 1460 near Wakefield ) was an English knight .

Life

He was a younger son of Henry Bourchier, 1st Earl of Essex and Isabel of Cambridge, Countess of Essex , a sister of Richard Plantagenet, 3rd Duke of York . Sir Edward was a 1st cousin of Edward IV and Richard III. and also related to the Plantagenet house through his grandmother Anne of Gloucester .

He fought for the House of York in the Wars of the Roses at the First Battle of St Albans (1455) and the Battle of Ludlow (1459). After the victory at St. Albans he was given supervision and administrative authority over Kidwelly Castle . The Parliament in Coventry in 1459, also called the Parliament of Devils , imposed a Bill of Attainder on many supporters of the House of York , including Edward Bourchier, after the defeat at Ludlow . After the victory of the Yorkists under Richard Neville, 16th Earl of Warwick in Northampton in 1460, Sir Edward was also given control of Montgomery Castle . Harlech Castle was to be handed over to Sir Edward according to a decision of the royal council ( council ), but Jasper Tudor, 1st Duke of Bedford ignored this decision and expanded the fortification as the last retreat of the Lancastrians in Wales.

Sir Edward Bourchier fought and died on December 30, 1460 at the Battle of Wakefield .

Marriage and offspring

Sir Edward was not married and left no descendants.
