Edward Barry Greynville Gibson, 4th Baron Ashbourne (born January 28, 1933 in Malta ) is a British peer , naval officer and politician ( Conservative Party ).

life and career

Gibson was born the son of Vice Admiral Edward Gibson, 3rd Baron Ashbourne and his wife Rita Frances Manning Hazeland (1903-1996). He attended rugby school in rugby in Warwickshire . He joined in 1951 in the Royal Navy and in 1952 Midshipman ( Midshipman ). In 1953 he was promoted to sub-lieutenant . In 1955 he was promoted to lieutenant. Gibson specialized in torpedo and naval warfare. He rose to lieutenant commander in 1963 . From 1963 to 1964 he commanded the HMS Crofton , a minesweeper , and in 1966 the HMS Phoebe .

In 1967 Gibson Staff was Commander of the Persian Gulf Naval Forces . He left the Royal Navy in 1972. From 1972 to 1973 and again from 1976 to 1979 he worked as a stockbroker at Kitcat & Aitken . In between he worked from 1973 to 1976 at Vickers da Costa as a stockbroker. From 1979 to 1981 he worked for the Save and Prosper Group , and from 1981 to 1988 at GT Management . From 1989 to 1993 he was "Director of Naval Operations and Trade" in the British Ministry of Defense ( Ministry of Defense ).

Membership in the House of Lords

After his father's death in September 1983, he inherited his title and the then associated seat in the House of Lords . He gave his inaugural address on April 2, 1984.

In the 1980s he spoke about the Warnock Report , the Dockyard Services Bill , Sunday sales and the army, among other things . In the 1990s he spoke several times on the Human Fertilization and Embryology Bill , the Gulf Region, educational policy and medical ethics .

Its membership ended by the House of Lords Act 1999 . For one of the remaining seats he ran for election, but only occupied 82nd place in his party, for which 42 seats were awarded. He is listed in the Register of Hereditary Peers , which are available for by-election.

He currently does not belong to the Hereditary Peers Association .

family

Gibson married Yvonne Geogina Ham on March 25, 1967, the daughter of Major Gordon William Ham. They have three sons together.
