Edward Hastings Chamberlin

Edward Hastings Chamberlin (born May 18, 1899 in La Conner, Washington , † July 16, 1967 in Cambridge , Massachusetts ) was an American economist teaching at Harvard University .

In his work The Theory of Monopolistic Competition Chamberlin takes the view that the real market lies between the models of competition and monopoly . For this he coined the term monopolistic competition .

Like Robinson , he had a strong influence on neoclassical price theory .

In 1936 Chamberlin was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
