Edward Lyons

Edward Lyons QC (born May 17, 1926 in Glasgow , † April 23, 2010 in Leeds ) was a British politician .

biography

After the Second World War he did his military service in the British Army and worked as a translator for the Russian language in the British zone of occupation in Germany . He then completed a law degree at the University of Leeds . After completing his studies, he was admitted to the bar ( barrister ). Throughout his legal practice he becomes the Attorney General appointed (Queen's Counsel) and practiced as such in Leeds and London .

Lyons began his political career in 1966 as a candidate for the Labor Party with the election to the House of Commons , where he represented the constituency of Bradford East until 1974 and then until 1983 the constituency of Bradford West . In 1981 he resigned from the Labor Party and became a member of the beaten also from the Labor Party Roy Jenkins , David Owen , Bill Rodgers and Shirley Williams founded Social Democratic Party (SDP) . In the general election in 1983 , however, he himself suffered a defeat and lost his mandate in the lower house.

After leaving Parliament, he resumed his practice as a lawyer. In 1994, however, he rejoined the Labor Party as a member. In addition, after retiring, he is completing a postgraduate course in European Studies at the University of Leeds and will finish this course with a Bachelor of Arts (BA in European Studies).

He left behind his wife Barbara and their children, a son, a daughter and four grandchildren.
