Edward Smith Parsons

Edward Smith Parsons (born August 9, 1863 in Brooklyn , † 1943 in Cambridge (Massachusetts) ) was an American university professor ( English )

Parsons came from a well-respected family, including the Indian Commissioner in the government of Ulysses S. Grant Edward Parmelee Smith (hence his nickname Smith). This was his mother's cousin.

Edward Smith Parsons had a degree in theology, was a clergyman for the Congregationalists and was active in a Christian social movement (Social Gospel) in the early 20th century. He was the dean of Colorado College. In 1919 he was elected President of Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio , which he remained until 1936. In 1923/24 he was President of the Ohio College Association.

He was an English specialist and published, among other things, on John Milton .

His son was Talcott Parsons .
