from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Edward Stradling (March 30, 1699 - October 3, 1726 ) was a British politician.

Edward Stradling came from the Stradling family , an old gentry family from Glamorgan . He was the eldest son of Edward Stradling, 5th Baronet and his wife Elizabeth Mansel . According to old Welsh tradition, his father had the bard Hopkin the Weaver write a poem on the occasion of his birth . In 1716 Stradling studied at Christ Church College , Oxford . After his father refused to run again, Stradling was elected as a candidate for the Tories in Cardiff in the general election in 1722 . In the House of Commons , however, he apparently did not take part in any votes or gave any speeches. He died unmarried while his father was still alive, whereupon he had Llywelyn write a lament from Ifan . After his death, his younger brother Thomas became the heir of his father, who, however, died unmarried just three years after his father's death. With that the main line of the Stradling family and the title Baronet became extinct .
