Een Griekse tragedie (Eng. A Greek Tragedy ) is a Belgian animated short film directed by Nicole Van Goethem in 1985.

action

An acropolis- like building where garbage is already stored: Not far away, three caryatids clad in a chiton stand on a plinth and have been holding up a triangular gable together for some time. It was night, they wake up in the morning, do a little morning exercise together, always careful to keep the gable straight, and otherwise stand around as gable holders. They are not only concerned with the slowly crumbling stone, but also with the wind that whirls their chitons around. An umbrella run wild by the storm sweeps the right caryatid from its base and shatters the gable. The caryatid standing in the middle can just about catch a fragment of the right part of the gable and presses it into the hand of the caryatid, who seems to have been taken but is still climbing back onto the base. She is now resolutely holding the fragment aloft.

A construction worker with a hoe is busy not far from the temple fragment, the hoe getting caught in the chiton of the middle caryatid and which, trying to free itself, is thrown from the base when the material is torn together with the caryatid standing next to her to the left. Their gable parts drill into the base. Although the last caryatid still marks the temple a little by itself with its gable, it also throws the stone away at dusk. In the background the other caryatids can be seen dancing for couples and the third one soon tries to do a clumsy top dance. All three disappear into the night singing and dancing.
