The Efkon GmbH with headquarters in Raaba near Graz (Austria) is one of the leading providers of electronic tolling and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), and has successfully established with offices and affiliates in Europe, Africa and Asia. Since 2008, Efkon has been a subsidiary of the Strabag construction group , one of the largest construction companies in Europe.

Field of activity

The company sells intelligent transportation systems ( Intelligent Transportation Systems - ITS), toll systems ( from the manual toll in toll stations to all forms of electronic toll collection such as: video toll, toll portals, satellite toll ), toll monitoring systems ( Enforcement ) and traffic telematics systems ( Traffic Telematic Solutions ) and services in these areas.

history

Efkon was founded in 1994 by Helmut Rieder and Raimund Pammer. From 1999 onwards, there was a strong internationalization as a result of large, partly national, comprehensive projects in Asia and Europe as well as the establishment of subsidiaries and joint ventures. Efkon has been a group company of the Austrian construction company Strabag since 2008 .

International projects

  • Belgium: Delivery and technical operation of the nationwide toll monitoring system (enforcement).
  • Germany: Efkon supplied the communication and monitoring equipment for the German truck toll and equipped the mobile control vehicles with Efkon systems. The satellite toll devices used were developed by Efkon Germany (Berlin).
  • Austria: Development and delivery of the vignette control system as well as other essential components for toll collection.
  • Taiwan: Installation of a nationwide system for over 1,000 lanes and 3 million on-board devices in free-flowing traffic. The on-board unit (OBU) used a contactless multi-application chip card as early as 1999.
  • Malaysia: Public transport, tolls, non-stop tolls, parking and credit card functionality are combined on one contactless chip card. Efkon also delivered around 3 million OBUs. .
  • India: Efkon supplies toll systems and traffic technology for highways and is one of the top 3 players in this rapidly growing market.
  • South Africa: Efkon set up numerous toll systems and the traffic management system for the entire high-level road network.
  • Ireland: Construction and operation of several toll stations, including electronic toll collection.
