The Sultan Syarif Kasim II International Airport ( Indonesian Bandara Internasional Sultan Syarif Kasim II , IATA : PKU , ICAO : WIBB ) is the airport of Pekanbaru , the capital of the Riau Province on the Indonesian island of Sumatra .

The destinations are Kuala Lumpur and Malacca in Malaysia , Singapore and Jakarta in Java , Medan in Sumatra and Batam in the Riau Islands .

The airport is also used for military purposes, the 12th Air Force Squadron of Tentara Nasional Indonesia (TNI) is stationed here with BAE Hawk combat aircraft (Mk. 109 and Mk. 209) and Sikorsky H-34 helicopters.

The airport was formerly called Simpang Tiga . The current name refers to Sultan Syarif Kasim II from Riau from before Indonesia's independence. There are plans to move the airport further outside the city.
