Egbert Wagenborg

Egbert Wagenborg (born June 10, 1866 in Veendam , † June 14, 1943 in Delfzijl ) was a Dutch shipowner and founder of today's Koninklijke Wagenborg BV and hotel owner .

Life

Egbert Wagenborg was born as the youngest of seven children of the married couple Peter Wagenborg (1824–1871) and Gertrude Geerts Smeltekop (1826–1887).

At the age of ten he went on board the launch of his brother Geert (1850-1931), who was the captain. In 1888 he married Abelina Lukkiena Vegter (1868-1931), with whom he had eleven children, three of whom died in childhood.

Around 1888/89 he took over his first ship, the Broedertrouw , and the first collaboration with the shipbuilder Berend Niestern took place . After he founded what is now Koninklijke Wagenborg BV, the company expanded.

Badhotel Schiermonnikoog

Badhotel Schiermonnikoog , which was acquired around 1918 and built on dunes , turned out to be a bad investment . The hotel was destroyed in autumn 1923 due to weather-related dune erosion.
