Egidijus Šileikis

Egidijus Šileikis (born May 8, 1967 in Salakas , Zarasai district ) is a Lithuanian lawyer, constitutional lawyer , professor at Vilnius University , former judge of the Lithuanian Constitutional Court .

education

After graduating from the Pandėlys Middle School in the Rokiškis district in 1984 , Egidijus Šileikis graduated from the Law Faculty of Vilnius University with a degree in law in 1989 and postgraduate studies for foreign lawyers ( LL.M. ) at the University of Frankfurt in 1991 (head of the master’s thesis Rudolf Steinberg ). In 1994 he did his doctorate under Erhard Denninger on the subject of a free democratic order: term in the German constitution and principles of the rule of law and democracy in the Lithuanian constitution ( Laisvoji Demokratieinė santvarka: terminas VFR Pagrindiniame Įstatyme ir democinės teisinės valstybės principai Lietuvos Respublikjeos Konstitucijoje ).

From 1997 to 1998 he did research stays abroad with a grant from the Humboldt Foundation in Frankfurt am Main and, in 2004, three months at the Humboldt University in Berlin with Ingolf Pernice . There he prepared practice and teaching materials for courses on Lithuanian constitutional law. In 2005, Egidijus Šileikis completed his habilitation on the subject of practical and theoretical questions of the constitutional construction bases of the Lithuanian statehood (Lietuvos valstybingumo konstitucinės Konstrukcijos pagrindų teoriniai ir practiceiniai klausimai) .

Legal activity

From 1995–1997 and 1998–2000, Egidijus Šileikis was a legal advisor and lawyer at the Seimas office (in the legal department at that time). From 2002 to 2005 Egidijus Šileikis worked as a legal advisor in the government office. From 2008 to 2017 he was a judge at the Lithuanian Constitutional Court .

Research & Teaching

Egidijus Šileikis worked as an assistant, senior assistant and lecturer. He is currently a professor (since 2005) at the Chair of Constitutional Law at the Faculty of Law in Vilnius. His courses include Lithuanian constitutional law and local law . His research areas are constitutional justice , parliamentary law and the status of political parties.

family

His brother was Gintaras Šileikis († 2007). His father was a teacher Kazimieras Šileikis († 1995). His mother, Vilhelmina Šileikienė, a former teacher, is retired and lives in Ignalina .

Egidijus Šileikis is single.
