Gerrit Manssen

Gerrit Manssen (born September 12, 1959 in Leer , East Frisia ) is a German lawyer and professor at the University of Regensburg .

Life

In 1978 Manssen passed the Abitur at the Ubbo-Emmius-Gymnasium Leer . This was followed by a two-year training as a banker at Deutsche Bank . Between 1980 and 1986 he studied law at the University of Regensburg, interrupted by a stay at the University of Geneva as a DAAD scholarship holder. He passed his first state examination in law in 1986, the second in 1989. Manssen then worked as a research assistant at Udo Steiner 's chair , under which he was awarded a doctorate in 1990. jur. PhD. In 1993 he completed his habilitation, which was accompanied by the venia legendi for the subjects of state, administrative and social law.

In the following winter semester 1993/94 he held a chair for public law at the University of Münster , before taking over the chair for public law, in particular finance and tax law, at the University of Greifswald in 1994 . There he was meanwhile for the winter semester 1995/96 and the following summer semester vice dean of the law faculty. In 1997 he accepted a call from his alma mater to the chair of public law, in particular German and European administrative law, the chair of his doctoral supervisor Steiner. From October 1, 2000 to September 30, 2002, Manssen was Dean of the Law Faculty of the University of Regensburg. From February 1, 1996 to April 30, 1997, when he accepted the call to Regensburg, he was also a judge at the Greifswald Higher Administrative Court .

Manssen is a member of numerous associations, such as the commission to investigate allegations of scientific misconduct or the research center “Law of the Information Society”. In May 2011 he was awarded the medal of the University of Wroclaw on the occasion of the 65th anniversary celebration "for outstanding services in promoting the cooperation between the Faculty of Law at the University of Regensburg and the Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics at the University of Wroclaw" .
