Egil Roger Olsen (born April 22, 1942 in Fredrikstad ), nicknamed Drillo , is a Norwegian football coach and was the coach of the Norwegian national team until September 2013 .

Life

From 1990 to 1998 he coached the Norwegian national team and led them to the finals of the 1994 and 1998 World Championships . In 1999, Olsen was coach of Wimbledon FC in England, but was released after less than a year. From 2005 to 2007 he worked as a consultant for Vålerenga Oslo . From September 2007 to February 2008 he was the head coach of the Iraqi national team . From January 2009 he took over responsibility for the Norwegian selection a second time after Åge Hareideresigned due to unsuccessfulness. After Norway beat Germany in their first game as national coach on February 11, 2009 in Düsseldorf, and then led the next two games to the satisfaction of all involved, his contract was extended. On September 27, 2013, he was replaced by Per-Mathias Høgmo as the Norwegian national coach. Overall, he coached the Norwegian national team in his two terms in 135 official internationals and two unofficial games (against the Danish league selection on January 15, 2012 and against the South Korean U-23 team on January 21, 2012 at the King's Cup in Bangkok ) and more than any other Norwegian coach.

During his playing days, Olsen was a successful player himself. Olsen was a member of the Maoist Communist Workers Party of Norway (AKP).
