Eduard Egon Peter Paul Giovanni Prinz zu Fürstenberg , Egon von Fürstenberg for short (born June 29, 1946 in Lausanne , Switzerland ; † June 11, 2004 in Rome , Italy ), was a Swiss fashion designer . He comes from the Princely House of Fürstenberg .

Egon von Fürstenberg is the middle of three children of Tassilo von Fürstenberg and his wife Claire Jeanne Agnelli (1920-2016), a sister of the former Fiat bosses Giovanni and Umberto Agnelli . His siblings are Ira von Fürstenberg (* 1940) and Sebastian von Fürstenberg (* 1950).

Life

After studying economics in Switzerland, von Fürstenberg moved to New York , where he discovered his passion for fashion. The designer studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and the Parson's School of Design

On July 16, 1969, von Fürstenberg married Diane Simone Michelle Halfin in Montfort-l'Amaury in the Yvelines department in France , who also became a well-known fashion designer under the name Diane von Fürstenberg . From this marriage, which was divorced in 1972, the two children Alexandre Egon (* 1970) and Tatiana (* 1971) emerged. Diane von Fürstenberg married the media mogul Barry Diller in 2001 .

Von Fürstenberg had been working as a fashion designer since 1977. Initially he worked as a buyer for Macy’s , one of the largest department stores in the world, and designed plus sizes for women. He later expanded his collection to include all areas of fashion. In addition to made-to-measure clothing, von Fürstenberg also designed bar goods. In 1991 he took part in the Alta Moda Days in Rome for the first time with his own show .

In 1983 Egon von Fürstenberg married his second wife, Lynn Marshall. Von Fürstenberg, who was also known as the “Prince of Haute Couture”, died unexpectedly in 2004 in the Roman Spallanzani hospital and was only 57 years old. He was buried in the family grave in Strobl .
