Ira von Fürstenberg (actually Virginia Carolina Theresa Pancrazia Galdina Princess zu Fürstenberg; born April 18, 1940 in Rome ) is a European actress and jewelry designer.

Life

Ira von Fürstenberg comes from the Princely House of Fürstenberg and is the eldest of three children from Tassilo zu Fürstenberg (1903–1987) and his wife Claire Jeanne Agnelli (1920–2016), a sister of the former Fiat bosses Giovanni and Umberto Agnelli . Her brothers are Egon zu Fürstenberg (1946-2004) and Sebastian zu Fürstenberg (* 1950).

Her career began with a scandal when she married Alfonso Prinz zu Hohenlohe on September 17, 1955 at the age of 15 . The marriage, which lasted until 1960, resulted in two sons, Christoph (1956–2006) and Hubertus .

Her second marriage was from 1961 to 1964 with the Brazilian entrepreneur Francisco Pignatari (1916–1977).

As an illustrious representative of high society, Ira von Fürstenberg was the focus of the rainbow press for decades . She worked as a mannequin at fashion shows , and although she had never received acting lessons, she accepted a role offer from Italian producer Dino de Laurentiis in 1966 . She then worked in numerous international film productions for 15 years. In 1976 she was appointed President of the Italian subsidiary of the Germaine Monteil cosmetics company . In 1978 she became general director of the Roman fashion house Valentino . In January 1992 she received her own television series, Palastgeflüster, on Sat.1 . Ira von Fürstenberg also made a name for herself as a designer of art objects.

As a guest of the Harald Schmidt Show , she claimed on May 21, 1996 that she had been considering a marriage to the widowed Prince Rainier of Monaco . They were related through their common ancestor Lady Mary Victoria Hamilton , the Scottish-German wife of Albert I of Monaco .

Ira von Fürstenberg speaks Italian, German, French, Spanish, English and Portuguese.
