action

The Frenchman Roger is a financially stable fashion photographer whose most important goal in life is to finally venture into the world of the beautiful and rich and “belong”. The dubious death of a colleague leaves Roger to investigate on his own. One day in the photo studio he met the millionaire wife Laura Parrish, who was as beautiful as she was shrouded in mystery and who fascinated him very much. Roger cannot leave her from the start and begins a passionate affair with the young woman, which leads the couple to the Engadin and Nice on the Côte d'Azur , to the famous Hotel Negresco .

But it is not the “great love” that drives Roger; rather, he is hoping for the long-awaited ticket to the Glamor Society through sex and passion with Laura . When Roger goes too far with his research into the past life of his lover, he comes up against Laura's slick and villainous husband. In his villa, Roger comes across explosive documents that show that the millionaire is involved in rather dirty business. Soon Mr. Parrish finds out about Rogers snooping, which puts this and Laura in mortal danger. Parrish lets the two of them watch from now on and finally plans to get rid of the unfaithful wife and her lover.

When Roger finds out about Parrish's crooked business, he tries to extort a large sum of money from him. Roger has photos of a tank device that Parrish is selling illegally. Parrish pretends to give Roger the requested amount. Parrish's wife and lover Rogers, Laura, is supposed to receive the money on a mountain top of Muottas Muragl and in return to hand over the photos that Roger secretly took. There is a showdown at the summit. Parrish comes in by helicopter and chases his wife to death, while Roger is beaten up by Parrish's henchmen in the hotel, only to blame him for the murder of Laura. The handcuffs click and Roger is arrested by the Swiss police.

Reviews

Kino.de called the film a “shimmering time portrait of the 60s with the elements sex, crime, jet set” and further stated: “ Klaus Lemke's second feature film after his first film“ 48 Hours to Acapulco ”is in many ways a typical product of 1960s. Refraining from a stringent action, the focus is on interpersonal coldness, indifference and amorality in a (alpine) dream world. "

“Epigonal play with the surface stimuli of a ritualized entertainment cinema. The efforts of young filmmaker Klaus Lemke are exhausted - like those of his hero - in quoting cinema clichés, the distance between which is always obvious and the original. "

“The attempt, embedded in a cool, stylized entertainment film, to expose the stereotype of a beautiful, orderly life with the means of an imitated dream factory. Successful only in parts and of time-critical imagery. "

- Films 1965–1970, Cologne 1971, p. 227

“Lemke's second feature film is routine and lavishly made and tends towards consumer films. The deliberately trivial story is poor in tension and rich in clichés. "

On filmtipps.at it says: “So NEGRESCO is the dream of a big life, but it fails just like Lemke's goal of criticizing the establishment. Because of course the film succumbs to its own temptations. NEGRESCO is more appearance than reality, it celebrates the status symbols, the mendacity of which it claims to criticize. That leaves him on the surface, and for someone like Lemke who lived in a shared apartment with Andreas Baader , the result was of course unsuccessful. On the other hand, the film is convincing because of what you could accuse it of. ”Conclusion:“ Psychedelic, poppy and exaggerated establishment farce, which, with its charming surface polish, invites you to relax on the white sofa or in a lounge while you talk about the badness of the World is talking.
