Egon Roman

Egon Römisch (born August 24, 1909 in Frankfurt am Main ; † December 17, 1976 in Heidelberg ) was a German classical philologist who was particularly active in the field of didactics of ancient languages.

Life

Egon Römisch, the son of the architect Michael Römisch, studied classical philology and German at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , the Ruprecht-Karls-University in Heidelberg and the Georg-August-University in Göttingen . In 1933 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD ; his thesis on the older Greek elegy had Otto Rainbow cared. After completing his studies, Römisch worked as a high school teacher in Frankfurt am Main. In 1941 he was employed by the German Academy (1925) as a lecturer in Wraza (Bulgaria). In 1943 Römisch was drafted into the army (Wehrmacht) and served in World War II .

After the end of the war, Römisch worked at the study seminar in Heidelberg, which he headed with the title of Senior Studies Director until he retired in 1972. Among other things, he supervised the trainee lawyers in Latin and Greek at the study seminar. In addition to this work, Römisch worked as a lecturer at the Philological Department of Heidelberg University until 1955 . He published school editions by Greek and Latin authors as well as monographs and essays on the subject didactics of ancient language teaching . Together with Severin Heß and Helmut Vester published the didactic series of Heidelberg texts . In 1970 Heidelberg University appointed him honorary professor for subject didactics of Latin and Greek languages ​​and literature.

Egon Römisch was married to the classical philologist Liselotte Eckardt , who in December 1934 in Heidelberg (also with Otto Regenbogen) with the dissertation Excursions and Ekphraseis with Lucan (published 1936) for Dr. phil. had received a doctorate. He died on December 17, 1976 in Heidelberg.
