Egon from Berchem
Egon August Freiherr von Berchem (born April 2, 1876 in Stuttgart , † December 1, 1946 in Oberelkofen , today a district of Grafing near Munich ) was a German publisher, sphragistician and heraldist .
Life
Egon von Berchem, who came from the baronial line of the Bavarian noble family von Berchem , acquired knowledge of heraldry and sealing autodidactic. Strong collaboration with the graphic artist and heraldist Otto Hupp and the heraldist Donald Lindsay Galbreath shaped his view of historical and aesthetic heraldry. This collaboration resulted in an unprecedented catalog of German heraldic books of the Middle Ages. From 1918 until his death Berchem was a member of the “Der Herold” association.
