Egon von Ploetz

Egon Adalbert Walter Edmund von Ploetz (born April 12, 1880 in Meran ; † August 3, 1964 in Stuttgart ) was a German major general .

origin

He came from the old Pomeranian noble family Ploetz . His parents were Maximilian von Ploetz (* July 10, 1846 - November 18, 1882) and his wife Valerie Szitanyi (* July 7, 1855 - January 1, 1940).

Live and act

After graduating from high school in Dresden , he was accepted into the 1st Brandenburg Uhlan Regiment "Emperor Alexander II of Russia" No. 3 as a flag junior in 1899 . In 1905 he was transferred to the 4th Squadron of the Guard Cuirassier Regiment in Berlin . In 1913 he was promoted to Rittmeister and transferred to the staff of the Guard Cuirassier Regiment.

In the First World War he took part in the Eastern campaigns and was adjutant to the commander in Bucharest . He received both Iron Crosses as well as several other military awards.

After the war he was accepted into the Reichswehr and served as an adjutant on the staff of the 2nd Cavalry Division in Breslau . In 1921 he was appointed head of the training squadron of the 2nd Prussian Cavalry Regiment Allenstein . In 1924 he was transferred to the 6th Squadron of the 2nd Prussian Cavalry Regiment in Königsberg and in 1926 he was transferred to the regimental staff of the 7th Prussian Cavalry Regiment in Breslau. In 1929 he was commander and lieutenant colonel in the 5th Prussian cavalry regiment in Stolp . In 1931 he was promoted to colonel, in 1932 he was retired from active service. In 1933 he was reactivated as a supplementary officer of the Reichswehr in Rostock and then appointed commander of the Rostock military district command.

With the beginning of the Second World War he was transferred to the field commandant's FK 540 in La Rochelle as field commander . In 1941 he was deployed with his staff in the central section of the Eastern Front in the 403rd Security Division. In 1942 he was promoted to major general and finally retired from active service in the Wehrmacht on September 30, 1942.

Egon von Ploetz was married to Henriette von Boddien (1887–1958). The couple had several children:
