Egyptian Automotive Company was a manufacturer of automobiles from Egypt .

Company history

The company was founded in Cairo in 1958 . The then President Gamal Abdel Nasser placed the order for this . Engineer George Hawi and Air Force Officer Essam Abu el Ela were instrumental in building the company. The chief engineer was Mohammed Wali. In 1958 or 1959 the production of automobiles began with the help of the German NSU engine works . The brand name was Ramses . Production ended in 1973. A subsidiary was the Egyptian Light Transport Manufacturing Company .

In the best of 1964, 400 vehicles were built. Around 1700 vehicles have survived by 1965.

vehicles

The company obtained complete floor assemblies for the NSU Prinz from NSU . This included the engine, transmission and chassis. An air-cooled two-cylinder engine with 583 cm³ displacement was mounted in the rear and drove the rear wheels.

The body was different from the original. One source names the Gamila as a two-door sedan and a two-door convertible , both designed by Vignale , as well as a doorless multi-purpose vehicle. Another source gives a four-seater sedan , an open four-seater, the Gamila as a sporty version with a body by Vignale and the model Utilica as a multi-purpose vehicle in the style of the Citroën Méhari .

From 1962, the company used the body of the NSU Prinz 4 for the sedan, which was modified in the front area.

From 1963, the previously doorless multi-purpose vehicle was given doors.

The cabriolet was discontinued in 1965.

From 1967 a separate body was created, which was more angular than before.

A four-door sedan was also available from 1971.
