Ehm-Welk Literature Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ehm Welk Literature Prize was founded in 1992 by the district administrator of the Uckermark district and has been awarded every two years since then. With prize money of € 2,000, it is one of the most highly endowed literary prizes in the state of Brandenburg .

The award serves to promote literature in the Uckermark district. Authors across Germany have been able to submit poetry and prose since 2018, provided the work reflects the concept of home in the sense of the writer Ehm Welk . Ehm Welk, who spent his childhood in Biesenbrow in the Uckermark region , became known for the " Kummerow " novels in which he expressed his humanistic worldview.

The five-person jury is traditionally made on behalf of the district administrator by the Uckermärkische Literaturgesellschaft eV , which is based in the Ehm Welk and Heimatmuseum in Angermünde .
