Ehrenfried Patzel (Czech: Čestmír Patzel ) (* 2. December 1914 in Karbitz , Bohemia , Austria-Hungary , † 8. March 2004 in Büdingen ) was a German football - goalkeeper , who for the Czechoslovak national team denied four internationals. He became vice world champion in 1934.

Career

Ehrenfried Patzel first played in his home town of Karbitz. In 1932 he moved to Teplitzer FK , one of the best German-Bohemian clubs in Czechoslovakia. Patzel played with Teplitz from 1932 to 1936 in the highest Czechoslovak league, the greatest success being fourth place in the 1933/34 season.

Patzel's outstanding achievements brought him a call to the Czechoslovak national team in 1934 , but he couldn't get past František Plánička , one of the best goalkeepers in the world. As a substitute keeper for the Czechoslovaks, he became vice world champion in June 1934. On September 2, 1934 he made his debut in Prague against the team of Yugoslavia , Czechoslovakia won 3-1. Three weeks later he was between the posts in the 2-2 draw against Austria in Vienna . On October 14th, he played one half of a 2-2 draw against Switzerland in Geneva . Patzel made his last appearance in the dress with the lion on his chest on April 14, 1935 in Prague , Czechoslovakia separated from Austria goalless.

Ehrenfried Patzel stayed in Teplitz until 1939 , afterwards he went to Germany and played for 1. SV Jena in the Gauliga Mitte . In 1942 he moved to Kickers Offenbach in the Gauliga Hessen-Nassau and played there in the Oberliga Süd after the Second World War . In 1948 he ended his career at the age of 34 due to an injury.

Later Patzel worked as a referee in the DFB .
