Sonthofen Cemetery of Honor

The Ehrenfriedhof Sonthofen is a military cemetery in Sonthofen in the Swabian district of Oberallgäu in Bavaria .
The cemetery is located southeast of the town center on a wooded ridge, the so-called "Schwäbeleholz". Were buried there next to the fallen many seriously ill people in the world wars of the nearby hospitals . In total there are almost 1,600 graves in the Sonthofen cemetery .
The cemetery was inaugurated on September 23, 1956 after three years of construction. At the top of a stone staircase through the surrounding forest is the landmark, a 15 meter high tower . Its bell bears the inscription “Remembrance of the millions of dead from two world wars, 1914–1918 / 1939–1945”.
