Founded in 1996 by Kristian Eidesvik, the company for offshore services with special vessels is based in Bømlo in the province of Vestland , Norway. The shipping company has been listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange under the code EIOF since 2004 . Two thirds of the shares are owned by the company founder. With a workforce of 625 employees, the company generates an annual turnover of 856 million crowns (around one hundred million euros , values from 2006).
Eidesvik is participating in the FellowSHIP project, which is testing the use of fuel cells for energy supply on non-military ships in cooperation with DNV , Wärtsilä and MTU . As part of this project, on September 8, 2009, the Viking Lady was the world's first civilian ship to be equipped with a fuel cell for energy supply.

Eidesvik operates a fleet of special ships. The ships are in use all over the world, mainly in regions that are important for offshore oil production.
To supply oil rigs , Eidesvik operates the supply ships Northern Crusader , Viking Athene , Viking Avant , Viking Dynamic , Viking Energy , Viking Lady , Viking Queen , Viking Surf , Viking Thaumas and Viking Troll .
As underwater work vessels, Eidesvik operates the Acergy Viking , Subsea Viking , Viking Forcados and Viking Poseidon .
The marine seismological research vessels are Geo Searcher , Oceanic Viking , TBN XBow SX120 , Veritas Vantage , Veritas Viking , Viking II , Viking Vanquish and Viking Vision .
