A pastor takes off (original title: Soul Man ) is an American sitcom that was first broadcast on ABC from 1997 to 1998 . It was developed by Carmen Finestra , David McFadzean and Matt Williams , the makers of Listen to Who's Hammering . Dan Aykroyd played the main role as the Episcopalian priest . A German version ran from 2005 to 2006 on Super RTL .

The main character of the series is Mike Weber, a former rocker and widowed Episcopalian priest who lives as a single father in Royal Oak and leads a church there. His four children are fourteen year old Kenny, eleven year old Andy, eight year old Meredith and Fred, the youngest of the family. Weber's ecclesiastical community includes Bishop Peter Jerome, who disapproves of Mike Weber's unconventional approach, Todd Tucker, who has just graduated from the seminary, and Mike's assistant, Nancy Boyd. The plots of the individual episodes result from situations in the family, the church and among the congregation.

A pastor starts playing in the same series universe as Listen, who's hammering . Mike Weber also appears in the episode The Unbelieving Son , which first aired on January 18, 1997 . In the series A Pastor Starts by , Tim Allen as Tim Taylor (in the episode Der Ganovenchor ), Richard Karn as Al Borland (in the episode A Promise is a Promise ) and Zachery Ty Bryan as Brad Taylor (in the episode Listen, Who there preaches ). In addition, the series Buddies and Thunder Alley , which have not yet been broadcast in Germany, also belong to this series.

A Pastor Take Off is a production by Touchstone Television and Wind Dancer Productions . First three episodes were produced, which were shown on ABC in April 1997. After another season with 22 episodes, which ran from September 1997 to May 1998, the series was discontinued. The German version ran from October to December 2005 and from May to July 2006 on Super RTL.
