ABC Studios is the television production division of the Disney-ABC Television Group . ABC Studios was founded in 1985 as Touchstone Television (named after Touchstone Pictures ) and received its current name in May 2007.

Beginning with the 2009-2010 season, the words "An ABC Studios Production" were displayed at the beginning of the series on all television series produced by ABC Studios and broadcast on ABC . This made ABC Studios the first television production company in the United States to fade in the production company's credits at the beginning of a television series.

In June 2009, the parent ABC Entertainment Group announced a reorganization with immediate effect. In January 2009, the Disney-ABC Television Group announced that it had fired 5 percent of its employees.

Productions of merged companies

While Touchstone Television was always a company of the Disney group, the originally independent American Broadcasting Company (ABC) had an in-house production company. This was created in the 1960s under the name ABC Films , later changed to the names ABC Circle Films , ABC Productions and ABC Entertainment . It was not until early 2009 that ABC Entertainment and Touchstone Television / ABC Studios merged under the name ABC Entertainment Group .

Walt Disney Television also existed under Disney as a sister company of Touchstone Television. While Touchstone was basically aimed at an adult audience, programs were produced under the Walt Disney brand that were aimed particularly at children and young people. Walt Disney Television was replaced in 2003 by Walt Disney Television Animation .
