Marvel Television is the American television production studio of Marvel Entertainment based in Burbank . Both animated television series and real films are produced. Except for Legion and The Gifted, the real series are all set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe , while the animated series are not part of this universe. At the end of 2019, operations will cease and open projects will be taken over by Marvel Studios .

history

On June 28, 2010, Marvel Entertainment announced the creation of its own television production studio , Marvel Television.

In July 2012, it was reported that a series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was being targeted. A pilot episode was ordered by ABC on August 28, 2012 . This episode was written by Joss Whedon , among others , who previously directed the movie Marvel's The Avengers . In September 2013, the Marvel's Agent Carter series was developed based on the one-shot Agent Carter . The series was ordered in May 2014 and aired on January 6, 2015.

In November 2013 it was announced that a collaboration between Marvel and Disney would develop four series that would be distributed via Netflix. The series are based on the characters DaredevilJessica Jones , Luke Cage and Iron Fist. In April 2016, the Marvel's The Punisher series was ordered as a spin-off of Daredevil by Netflix. Marvel's Iron Fist launched in March 2017 .

In December 2019, it was announced that Marvel Television would cease operations with the departure of Jeph Loeb . Planned projects have all been discarded, while series already in production, including the final season of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD and Marvel's Helstrom , are to be taken over by Marvel Studios . As a result, some employees will be taken over by the Marvel Studios, while many staff, including almost the entire management floor of Marvel Television, will be laid off.
