Jessica Jones

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jessica Jones is a Marvel Comics character who made her debut in the 2001 Marvel comic book alias by comic author Brian Michael Bendis . She is the protagonist of the series Marvel's Jessica Jones (2015-2019), in which she was played by actress Krysten Ritter .

history

Jessica Jones first appeared in Brian Michael Bendis' comic book Alias # 1 (2001). Alias ran for 28 copies under the newly formed Marvel MAX imprint, in which Marvel Comics had age-restricted titles with "adult content" (e.g. with the homosexual character Rawhide Kid ). This contributed to the fact that Jessica regularly uses the curse word " fuck " and can often be seen smoking. Both are forbidden in non-age-restricted Marvel comics, but in return no established Marvel characters such as B. the Avengers occur.

Bendis designed Jessica Jones as an orphaned, chain-smoking, and alcoholic private investigator who runs a seedy detective agency called Alias in New York City and is traumatized by a failed superhero career . For a living she solves dubious assignments, regularly cursing, fighting and sleeping with strange men. Her few comrades-in-arms are her best friend Carol Danvers and the two men Scott Lang and Luke Cage , who she regularly offends with her harsh behavior.

In the recent editions of Alias , Bendis established her backstory by stating that Jessica was a classmate of Peter Parker's and her father was an employee of Tony Stark . In a traffic accident, the family car collided with a military van, killing her parents and giving her superpowers from exposure to radioactive substances. She became a superhero named Jewel , who was superhumanly strong and capable of flying and wore a tight, white-blue costume typical of the genre, until she was kidnapped by the purple-skinned master manipulator Purple Man . The super villain made her his puppet and forced her u. a. to watch his brainwashed women raped. Jessica was able to escape, but remained traumatized and became a gloomy superhero Knightress until she gave up being a superhero completely to work as a private detective.

The dark stories of Bendis, in which Jessica Jones is portrayed as a "flawed, embittered, self-destructive, but deeply optimistic woman", were celebrated by fans and critics and among other things. a. rewarded with two nominations for the Eisner Award .

After Alias ended after issue 28, Jessica appeared in the new Marvel series The Pulse (2004-2006), in which she worked as a journalist with Daredevil supporting characters Ben Urich and Kat Farrell in the “superhero news” section of the newspaper Daily Bugle by publisher J. Jonah Jameson (from Spider-Man ) works. During this time, she deepens her relationship with Luke Cage, from which their daughter Danielle emerges. Both join the Avengers and eventually get married in New Avengers Annual # 1 (2014). In order to be a role model for Danielle, she becomes a superhero again and puts on her traditional white and blue costume, but now calls herself Power Woman, based on her husband Luke ("Power Man") .
