Carol Danvers

Cosplayer of Carol Danvers as Ms. Marvel

In 1977 the first Ms. Marvel, Carol Danvers , made her debut in Ms. Marvel # 1 . Danvers has been portrayed as a survivor of an alien accident by writer Gerry Conway , whose body was fused with powerful Kree genetics and has since been super powerful and almost invulnerable, able to fly and shoot energy beams. Both her red and black costume and her powers paid homage to Captain Marvel , in whose series Danvers had been a supporting character. The feminist character of the series was characteristic: instead of the " Miss Marvel" (English: "Miss Marvel") customary at the time , the series Ms. Marvel (English: "Mrs. Marvel") was called, which at the time was quite politically explosive, and in the comic itself Danvers was portrayed as a strong, independent woman who, in her civil identity, fought for equal pay for women . In 1980, Ms. Marvel caused a scandal when, in a story by author David Michelinie ( Avengers # 200 ), Ms. Marvel was hypnotized by a time-traveling villain named Marcus Immortus , then impregnated and given birth to a child who was the time-traveler himself. This date rape , dismissed by the avengers as a trivial offense in the comic , was later u. a. called "stupid" by Marvel writer Chris Claremont . Claremont wrote a story with Ms. Marvel ( Avengers Annual # 10 ) in 1981 , where he had her call the Avengers "cowards and hypocrites". The then Marvel editor-in-chief Jim Shooter later distanced himself from Avengers # 200 and took responsibility for allowing this “travesty”. In return, IGN Entertainment named Avengers Annual # 10 2012 one of the 25 Greatest Avengers Stories of All Time for "Claremont rehabilitating a character who was nearly annihilated by terrible writers."

Claremont portrayed Ms. Marvel in the following years as a tortured superhero, as he let the super villains Mystique and Rogue (who was then still criminal) kill their lover Michael or rob their powers. The traumatized Danvers temporarily shed her identity as Ms. Marvel and even her humanity when she became Binary , a being of pure energy. In the mid-1980s, Sharon Ventura became the new Ms. Marvel, but did not prevail. While Ventura was joining the Fantastic Four , Danvers was re-codenamed Warbird in the 1990s , but at times succumbed to alcoholism . In the 2000s, the Avengers were temporarily replaced by villains, so that the super villains Karla Sofen and Deidre Wentworth became the new Ms. Marvel, until Danvers took back the title in 2010.

Kamala Khan

Carol Danvers made her debut as the new Captain Marvel in 2012 , and her place as Ms. Marvel was taken over by a 16-year-old Pakistani-American Muslim woman named Kamala Khan in 2014 . The premise of author G. Willow Wilson was that Kamala is a big Carol Danvers fan and wishes to be “as strong and beautiful” as she, but against a “conservative mother, an ambitious father and one in everyday life devout brother “must enforce. Wilson's stories were so well received that Ms. Marvel won the Hugo Award in 2015 and was nominated for the Eisner Award .
