Mike Colter (born August 26, 1976 in Columbia , South Carolina ) is an American actor .

Life

He grew up in St. Matthews , South Carolina. He completed his school career in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in theater from the University of South Carolina . He earned an MFA in acting from Rutgers University .

Colter played his best-known movie role in Clint Eastwood 's Million Dollar Baby , in which he played boxer Big Willie Little . He was also on screen in Men in Black 3 , Salt and Zero Dark Thirty . Colter made individual appearances in numerous television series at the beginning of his career, until he took on a permanent guest role as drug lord Lemond Bishop in the series Good Wife , which he continued in the spin-off The Good Fight . In the television film Taking Chance he played alongside Kevin Bacon , for whose series The Following he would later be hired. From September 2011 to May 2012 Colter had the lead role of Malcolm Ward in the CW - television series Ringer held. In the series Marvel's Jessica Jones he played the superhero Luke Cage for the first time . In 2016 the series Marvel's Luke Cage started with Mike Colter in the title role.

Mike Colter lives in New York City .
