Marvel Studios, LLC (originally Marvel Films ) is an American film and television production company based in Burbank, California . Marvel Studios is a subsidiary of Walt Disney Studios , a division of the Walt Disney Company , and was founded in 1993. It was a subsidiary of Marvel Entertainment until August 2015 .

The films are based on the comic material from Marvel Comics . The Marvel Cinematic Universe and the X-Men film series form the cornerstone of the current production.
