Sicilian Blood Revenge is a German silent film drama directed by Adolf Gärtner with Ellen Richter in the leading role.
action
The young Pietro toiled in a Sicilian sulfur mine, while his sister Giullietta worked in the house of the mine owner. The siblings were literally hawked for three years by their own father to the powerful man in order to get the money from him to emigrate to Argentina. After three years, Pietro finally wants to finish the hard work under the highly toxic fumes that he had to inhale day in and day out, in accordance with the contract. When Pietro explains himself to his employer about this, a heated argument ensues in which the mine owner stabs Pietro. Lying dying, Pietro obliges Giullietta to avenge his death, as is the unwritten law in Sicily, with the blood of the murderer.
At her father's request, Ermete, the mine owner's son, is supposed to marry the daughter of the neighboring mine owner, although he secretly loves Giullietta. During the wedding procession, Giullietta takes her oath and shoots the groom's father and her brother's murderer with the rifle stolen by the village sergeant. Since Ermete also has to submit to the old law of Sicilian blood revenge, he is again urged to kill Giullietta, the woman he actually loves. Torn between duty and feeling, he doesn't know what to do. He would like to marry Giullietta, and Ermetes, who is praying the rosary, begs him to refrain from the blood revenge and to have Giullietta confirm that she was not in the village on the day of the fatal shooting at her father. The lovers withdraw to their room. The next morning both of them are found dead.

criticism
“The action, set in a sulfur mine, has the greatest impact and shows the leading actress in her best light. The drama of two siblings takes place on a social background, with the sister becoming the avenger of the brother who was suffocated in the sulfur pits. We have already given the technical and artistic qualities the recognition they deserve. "
