Einar Turkowski

Einar Turkowski (born July 11, 1972 in Kiel ) is a German illustrator.

Life

Einar Turkowski spent his childhood in Fahren , a small town in the provost near Kiel. During his school days he was already very successful in the advanced art course. After graduating from high school, he did an internship as a set designer. In 1998 he applied to the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences and was then accepted into Rüdiger Stoye's illustration class. In March 2005 he passed his diploma examination.

With his first work It was dark and strangely quiet , Turkowski achieved several successes, including the second prize at the 16th  Troisdorf Picture Book Prize and the Grand Prix of the 21st Biennale of Illustrations in Bratislava 2007. For the illustrations he used a traditional pencil technique Turkowski needed over 400 HB pencil leads and a single mechanical pencil. In addition to the illustration, Turkowski is also responsible for the story and the typography.
