The One World Network NRW is a one-world regional network in the legal form of a non-profit association based in Münster and Düsseldorf .

history

The One World Network NRW was founded in 1991. It unites natural persons and organizations in North Rhine-Westphalia who are committed to sustainable development with global responsibility. It sees itself as an umbrella association of development organizations in North Rhine-Westphalia and has built an alliance of those who are committed to one world. In 2008, 2,800 one-world groups from North Rhine-Westphalia were registered in the database. There are also around 1,000 personal members.

One world work in North Rhine-Westphalia has been funded by a state program since January 2006. With the help of 15 regional coordinators, development education work is being developed in the country. Those involved are supported by experts in 10 specialist areas in order to set specific priorities in the program and to promote further development.

Since 2008, the One World Network NRW has been a recognized sending organization within the framework of the development volunteer service weltwärts , which is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Focus of work

Together with its members, the One World Network NRW is committed to a cosmopolitan policy, a fair balance of interests between North and South, global environmental protection, fair trade, democratization, cultural diversity, observance of human rights, civil conflict resolution and peace. The main areas of work are:

  • Strengthening civil society's one-world commitment in NRW,
  • Motivation for critical reflection and solidarity in shaping global developments,
  • one-world politics as a social and state task,
  • Improvement of the framework conditions for one world engagement in NRW,
  • Anchoring global and intercultural learning in education,
  • Initiation of equal partnerships between north and south,
  • Advocating greater fairness in foreign trade relations,
  • Promotion of peaceful conflict resolution.

financing

The network is financed by membership fees and donations, grants from state and church institutions, grants from various foundations and sponsorship funds.

Campaigns and Projects

  • Campaign of the One World Network NRW on the UN Development Goals (MDG),
  • Campaign against the use of toxic pesticides by Bayer AG in developing countries,
  • "Hot times" climate campaign,
  • Organization of annual national conferences on the subject of one world politics,
  • Realization of different projects for global learning (e.g. the use of the One World Mobile),
  • Implementation of projects within the framework of: "Education meets development" in cooperation with the German Development Service (DED),
  • Support of fair trade projects,
  • Planning and implementation of various exhibitions, including the exhibitions: “Developing Country D”, “Our Future - One World” and “World Garden”.
