List of works by the Shuvalov painter

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Love scene
Woman with Eros

The list of works by the Shuvalov painter includes all preserved and known antique vases assigned to the Shuvalov painter . Then there are the vases that are assigned to his workshop, his students and his successors, whose painters have not yet been recognized as independent artists and whose works are particularly reminiscent of those of the master. In addition, there are the works of the painter from London E 208 and the painter from Boston 03.794 , which are so reminiscent of the Shuvalov painter that some of their works were previously assigned to him.

The list shows the vase shape in the first column. For more detailed information on the shapes, see the list of shapes, types and variants of ancient Greek fine and utility ceramics . The second column gives an approximate date in years BC. Chr., Column three the place of discovery, if it is known and column four the current storage location and the inventory number there. Under publication information is given to the publications in the following standard works:

  • ARV - John D. Beazley : Attic Red-figure Vase-painters . Oxford 1942. 2nd ed. 1963
  • Para - John D. Beazley: Paralipomena. Additions to Attic black-figure vase-painters and to Attic red-figure vase-painters . Oxford 1971
  • CVA - Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum

This is followed by the indication of the motif or motifs, especially with larger vases a distinction is made between the front ( A ) and the back ( B ). Finally, in the penultimate column, further comments are made, for example about the potter (mostly the S potter ) and the painter of the ornaments , the condition of the pictures or inscriptions . The list ends with a column for pictures, which can only be filled if a picture is available under a free license for the respective vase.
